Alberta's retail trade value decreased by 15.9% in May 2020 compared to May 2019, to $5.7 billion. Nationally, retail sales decreased by 18.4% over the same time frame. In Alberta, general merchandise (+8.3%) had the largest increase, while clothing and accessories had the largest decrease (-69.1%). These figures reflect the pandemic shutdown.
