The number of air passengers passing through Alberta's two largest airports decreased by 2.4% in December 2019 compared to the same period a year earlier. Nearly half of all air passengers (47.5%) moved through Calgary International Airport as domestic passengers. Edmonton transborder passengers had the largest year-over-year drop (-8.8%) compared with December 2018, while Calgary transborder passengers saw the largest year-over-year increase (+5.7%). In 2019, the number of air passengers travelling through Alberta increased by 0.9% compared with 2018 to 26.04 million. Transborder flights are defined as direct flights between the US and Canada.
