Alberta's retail trade value increased by 4.8% in January 2017 compared to January 2016, to $6.44 billion. Nationally, retail sales increased by 4.5% over the same time frame. In Alberta, sales for building materials (-10.6%) and food & beverage (-6.5%) saw the largest declines, while sales at gasoline stations (+21.9%) and in motor vehicles and parts (+12.6%) increased the most.
