Alberta's retail trade value increased by 7.8% in October 2017 compared to October 2016, to $6.8 billion. Nationally, retail sales increased by 6.7% over the same time frame. In Alberta, sales of motor vehicles and parts (+17.4%) and building material (+12.8%) increased the most, while miscellaneous stores (-13.5%) and food & beverage (-1.6%) were the only product categories to decline.
