The value of homes sold in Alberta through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) increased 21.4% to $1.49B in February 2017 compared to the same time period a year earlier. Home sales were down in British Columbia (-39.7%), Newfoundland (-27.2%), Nova Scotia (-14.6%), and Saskatchewan (-7.5%).
Grande Prairie (+75.6%) and Fort McMurray (+38.5%) saw the largest increases, while both Medicine Hat and Red Deer saw a decline of 5.6%.
Nationally, home sales are down 0.7% due to sales weakness in British Columbia. Alberta's sales value of $1.49 billion in February 2017 represented about 7.8% of the Canadian total.
