The value of homes sold in Alberta through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) increased 21.3% to $1.03B in January 2017 compared to the same time period a year earlier. Home sales were down in British Columbia (-36.5%), Newfoundland (-19.4%), and Nova Scotia (-3.8%).
Edmonton (+26.3%) and Grande Prairie (+26.2%) saw the greatest year-over-year increases in the province, while Fort McMurray saw a drop of 9.5%.
Nationally, home sales are up 8.5% due to sales strength in Ontario (+30.5%) and Quebec (+10.2%). Alberta's sales value of $1.03 billion in January 2017 represented about 8.6% of the Canadian total.
