The value of homes sold in Alberta through the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) increased 11.3% to $2.58 billion in May 2017 compared to the same time period a year earlier. Nationally, home sales were up 2.0%, led by strength in British Columbia (+24.8%). Alberta's sales value of $2.58 billion in May 2017 represented about 8.1% of the Canadian total.
In Alberta, Grande Prairie (+26.3%) and Edmonton (+12.3%) saw the largest increases in the province, while Red Deer (-11.8%) saw the greatest decline. The large increase seen in Fort McMurray represents a return to normal after last year's fire.
